GOD'S HOUSE mission starts with a vision to end homelessness in America. To accomplish this, our goal is to put a GOD'S HOUSE Rehabilitation Center for the Homeless, Inc. facility in every major city in the United States. Some people have tried to stereotype us as a shelter, but we are much, much more. We address the underlying issues of the individual to develop a personalized solution to their homeless situation. As the name of the organization states, we intend to not only to rehabilitate the homeless from homelessness, but also in as many cases as we can, promote home ownership. We are not looking to provide a temporary solution to the problem, but a permanent solution to the homeless crisis in America. The end result is that GOD'S HOUSE can and will change the lives of over 1200 homeless individuals in each facility, each and every year.
There are countless reasons why someone might become homeless. Many have become victims of tragic events and/or life circumstances. Then you have those that have made bad decisions and have fallen into sinkholes that their lives have not equipped them to handle. Many have called it fate and have become complacent with their present state of existence. Then there are those that prefer homelessness over responsibility and choose to live their lives via public assistance and the compassion of others. There are also many cases in which the shelter system has failed them, and the streets have become a safer more reliable alternative than the facilities that are designed to help them. We can’t just walk idly by and turn our heads to the situation. In many cities where the cost of living outweighs the average income ... homelessness is usually the end result. Research has shown that the main cause of homelessness is the lack of affordable housing for our lower class and underclass population. Together we can change those statistics and the lives of over 600,000 Americans.
In addition to mental or physical illness, substance abuse has also been a major contributor to America's homeless situation. Advocates for the homeless estimates that individuals addicted to drugs constitute a higher proportion of the homeless than the mentally ill or any other identifiable subgroups. The recent outbreak of the drug methamphetamines (street-named crystal meth) has become one of America’s biggest drug scares of the decade and is the drug of choice among homeless youths. People addicted to crack cocaine typically spend on the average of $200 daily on their addiction. Heroin addicts spend about $150 a day and the majority of the individuals in the shelter system are addicted to one drug or the other, not to mention those that abuse pharmaceutical drugs. In many incidents, the outcome results in birth defects among women who abuse drugs, incarceration and/or death. The reason GOD'S HOUSE: Rehabilitation Center for the Homeless, Inc. has been established is to address these and other issues and help put an end to the plague and poisons of addiction and homelessness.
The United States Shelter Systems are being stretched to capacity each and every day due to lack of affordable housing, job training, and a strong program of rehabilitation. In order for the state of homelessness to change, not only will their mindset need to change, but ours as well. GOD'S HOUSE: Rehabilitation Center for the Homeless, Inc. is dedicated and committed to making a change in the state of homelessness. In today’s society, homelessness has been classified by many as a disease that is spreading rapidly like a plague and has no immediate signs of a cure. We believe that with our programs and committed approach to this national epidemic, homelessness can be defeated. If homeless is truly a disease, then GOD'S HOUSE: Rehabilitation Center for the Homeless, Inc. is definitely the cure.
GOD'S HOUSE has developed a 2 year, 3 phase process that can and will change the lives of every homeless individual that walks through our doors. Each phase is designed to target the cause(s) of homelessness in each individual and bring forth mental, physical, social changes and growth. It is our intentions to address the conditions and circumstances that led to their present state of homelessness and implement the necessary programs that will not just change their state of living, but change their mindset as well. From the moment they walk through the doors of GOD'S HOUSE they are no longer considered homeless. That label is erased and if they apply themselves to our process, the end result will be a new beginning of independence outside the social system instead of simply surviving within it. The success of GOD'S HOUSE depends on the desire of the individual to change the state of his/her circumstances and their determination to become a strong, positive force in today’s society through stable job placement and home ownership. The determination they have to never go back to a life of homelessness will not just change their lives, but will also have a positive impact on the economic growth of the city, the state and ultimately the country. Real rehabilitation is a step-by-step process that first pinpoints the underlining issues, the real source of their situation and then structuring a personal programmed solution (PPS) that will guide them to their ultimate goal...economic stability and independence.
There are 2 (2) programs implemented at GOD’S HOUSE that will make an immediate impact on our economy. They are the 2nd Chance Initiative and Parenting Classes. Each of these programs reduces the amount of funding needed to sustain those in need. It costs on an average from $80-$150 per day to house an inmate in the United States. Most are eligible for probation or parole but are unable to be processed because they do not have an address to be sent to... God's HOUSE gives that address. These funds can go back into the economy and funnel down into other programs that will better serve the community. The establishment of GOD’S HOUSE is a win-win situation that benefits the homeless, the city, the state, and the country as a whole. With GOD’S HOUSE up and running, we project a decrease in the homeless population, a decrease in petty crimes, and a major decrease in government spending. We also project that with the GOD’S HOUSE approach to homelessness, we can expect a major increase in the local economy. You will have an entire population that is now looking to rent and/or purchase homes and apartments, purchase new and used cars, opening bank accounts, and becoming patrons to the local businesses that feeds the local economy.
